A New Art Line at FlourishCafe! – The Flourishing Abode

I’m very very excited today about a new line of prints I’ve just launched in my shop, and I wanted to share it with you! The theme of the new line is the incorporation of vintage art. By melding vintage illustrations with modern typography and design, it combines into whimsical and fresh pieces of art. The illustrations are old enough (from the 1920’s and prior) to be in the public domain and are no longer under copyright. So I’ve worked them into my new print designs, often altering the colors (most were in simple black and white) and pairing them … Read more

home decor – 3/3 – The Flourishing Abode

I recently went down to Georgia to pick up a dining room table that used to be my grandparents’ years ago.  I also got some neat items that were my great grandparents’, and some hymnals and other items that were my uncle’s. So many neat things! But my poor apartment is starting to get cluttered and I can’t properly appreciate the things like these that have and really love because there is a lot of just general “stuff” distracting and crowding.  Knit Cotton Dishcloths by ImpossiblyAlice SO! I am going into purge and clean mode! Simplify, donate and clean out.  … Read more

Your Product, The Core of Your Creative Business – Part 1 of the Creative Biz Challenge

It’s time to kick-off the creative biz challenge! WooT! Thank you to all of you who volunteered to have your shop critiqued and posted your questions – it was great to have so many options. And of course while I won’t be able to do everyone’s shop, I hope that the critiques and the information in this series will be valuable across the board. And really, I think that won’t be too hard – everyone asked pretty much the same things! It broke down easily into just a handful of categories. But there was one HUGE topic no one really … Read more

Double Critique Week! – The Flourishing Abode

Well, after an unintentional week off, I’m back up and running for the Creative Business Challenge. 🙂 Last week we talked about product photos and descriptions. I wanted to talk about the two of them together, because in a sense they are doing something similar – providing information about your product in a way that appeals to your target market. However, it is just a lot to cover in one post, so we’re still on that topic for this week, looking more at practical ways to put it into action by doing two shop critiques. If you missed last week’s … Read more
