Equipment

  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Mixing bowls (small, medium, and large)
  • Pastry blender or forks
  • Oven
  • Spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container fresh strawberries
  • 2 containers frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • ¾ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • oz all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup butter

Instructions

  • Wash, hull, and slice the strawberries, then mix them with sugar and lemon juice in a small bowl before setting them aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly spray a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a medium bowl, mix flour and brown sugar, then cut in the butter using a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles small peas.
  • Spread evenly in the prepared baking dish, press flat to form a crust, and bake for 10-12 minutes until firm.
  • Let it cool completely.
  • In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and one container of whipped topping, stirring well to create a smooth mixture.
  • Then spread it evenly over the cooled crust.
  • Drain the strawberries, reserving the syrup for later, and layer them evenly over the cream cheese mixture.
  • Top with the remaining whipped topping and refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.

Notes

  • Add a layer of crushed graham crackers or vanilla wafers for extra crunch.
  • Try mixing in a bit of vanilla extract or lemon zest into the cream cheese layer for added depth of flavor.
  • For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream cheese and whipped topping.
  • Garnish with additional fresh strawberries or a drizzle of chocolate before serving for a decorative touch.
