Equipment

  • Slow cooker
  • Large pot

Ingredients

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni or your favorite pasta shape
  • 2 cups milk or heavy cream for a rich, creamy sauce
  • 1 can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup adds extra creaminess
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard for a subtle tang
  • to taste salt and pepper season to preference
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese for cheesiness
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella melts beautifully into the sauce
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese adds depth of flavor
  • optional spices like smoked paprika, garlic powder, red pepper flakes to enhance flavor

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta in a large pot until just al dente, following package instructions—this prevents overcooking since it will finish in the slow cooker. Drain and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk or heavy cream, the can of soup, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and any spices if using—mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Transfer the cooked pasta into your slow cooker, spreading it out evenly.
  • Pour the creamy mixture over the pasta, ensuring all the noodles are coated evenly.
  • Add most of the shredded cheeses on top of the pasta and sauce, reserving a little for later. Gently stir everything together to combine the ingredients well.
  • Cover the slow cooker and set it to low. Let it cook for about 2 to 3 hours, until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbling and thickened.
  • About 15 minutes before serving, sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover, and let it melt for a cheesy crust.
  • If desired, transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish and broil for a few minutes until golden and crispy on top for extra texture.
  • Once bubbling and golden, serve the mac and cheese hot, and enjoy the rich, gooey, cheesy goodness in every bite.
