Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Sharp knife
  • Small spoon or piping bag
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 package store-bought pizza dough or homemade if preferred
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 10 slices black olives pitted, sliced thin
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce bright and slightly sweet
  • 4 leaves fresh basil for garnish
  • to taste red pepper flakes optional, for some heat
  • 4 slices prosciutto optional, for added flavor

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • Gently roll out the pizza dough into a rustic rectangle about 25 cm x 20 cm, keeping it loose and relaxed—no need for perfect edges.
  • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges to form a crust. You’ll smell the fresh, roasted aroma as you do so.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce, covering the surface with a gooey, stretchy layer.
  • Using a sharp knife or scissors, cut thin strips of cheese about 1 cm wide—these will become the mummy's bandages.
  • Lay out the cheese strips in a crisscross pattern across the pizza, overlapping randomly while leaving small gaps for the eyes.
  • Place small slices of olives into the gaps to create spooky eyes, pressing them gently into the cheese so they stay put during baking.
  • Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until the crust is golden and bubbling with cheese.
  • If using prosciutto, add slices on top during the last 3 minutes to crisp slightly and enhance flavor.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it rest for 3 minutes to allow the cheese to set slightly.
  • Finish by garnishing with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes if you like some extra heat and aroma.
  • Slice and serve your spooky, cheesy mummy pizza hot, enjoying the crispy crust and cheesy chaos with giggles all around.

Notes
