Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Sharp knife

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings preferably fresh and thawed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce for marinade and glazing
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar for sweetness and glaze
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 inch ginger fresh, grated
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 10 black olives small black olives for decorations and bat ears
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil optional, for flavor

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels, then lightly season with salt and pepper.
  • Mix soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a bowl to create the marinade.
  • Add the chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to a few hours for deeper flavor.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Arrange the marinated wings on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes until crispy and golden brown, flipping halfway through.
  • During the last 5 minutes of baking, brush the wings with a mixture of soy sauce and honey for a shiny, caramelized glaze. Continue baking until the glaze is bubbling and sticky.
  • While the wings are baking, prepare the bat decorations by slicing small circles from olives for ears and eyes, and setting aside.
  • Once the wings are done, transfer them to a serving platter. Use the small olive slices to create bat ears and eyes, attaching them with a small dab of sauce or toothpicks if needed.
  • Optional: gently fold or fan out the wings to resemble bat wings for a more dramatic presentation. Arrange the olive ears on top to mimic bat ears.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds or chopped scallions over the wings for extra texture and color, if desired.
  • Serve the Halloween Bat Wings hot, with your favorite dipping sauce or side dishes, and enjoy their crispy, savory goodness with a spooky twist!
