Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Brush for glazing

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings preferably fresh and high-quality
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce for marinade and glaze
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 inch ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar adds tang
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil for glaze
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes optional for heat
  • black pieces black olives for eyes
  • vegetables slices eggplant or zucchini cut into small bat shapes

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to ensure they crisp up nicely during cooking.
  • Mix soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and chili flakes in a large bowl to create the marinade.
  • Add the chicken wings to the marinade, tossing to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Arrange the marinated wings on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer, leaving space between each piece.
  • Bake the wings for about 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until they are crispy and golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the glaze by mixing soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and chili flakes in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over low heat and cook until slightly thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once the wings are baked, brush them generously with the glaze using a brush, coating each wing evenly.
  • Return the glazed wings to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to allow the glaze to caramelize into a shiny, sticky coating.
  • For the bat-like decorations, cut small bat wings from eggplant or zucchini slices, and use small black olives to create tiny eyes by slicing or halving them.
  • Decorate each wing with the small vegetable bats and eyes to mimic flying bats, arranging them on a dark platter for a spooky effect.
  • Serve immediately, pairing the wings with Halloween-themed dips like spicy sriracha mayo or tangy soy-ginger sauce for added flavor and fun.

Notes

For extra smoky flavor, grill the wings over charcoal. Feel free to customize the decorations for more spooky effects!
