Equipment

  • Nonstick skillet
  • Cheese grater (if using block cheese)
  • Butter knife
  • Spatula
  • Cutting board
  • Pan lid optional

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 4 slices white bread
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  • Generously butter one side of a bread slice and place it butter-side down in the hot skillet.
  • Add a slice of cheese on top.
  • Butter one side of a second bread slice and place it butter-side up on the cheese.
  • Cook until the bottom bread is lightly browned, then flip and continue cooking until the other side is browned and the cheese is melted.
  • Repeat with the remaining bread and cheese slices.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Opt for cheeses like cheddar, Gruyère, or American for optimal melting and flavor.
  • Spreading mayonnaise on the bread's exterior can yield a crispier crust due to its higher smoke point compared to butter.
  • Cooking over medium-low heat ensures the bread crisps evenly while allowing the cheese to melt thoroughly.
