Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring jugs

Ingredients

  • ½ cup fresh lime juice about 2-3 limes, juiced
  • ¼ cup simple syrup adjust to taste
  • ½ cup tequila silver or reposado
  • 2 cups crushed ice more if needed
  • Pinch salt for rimming glasses or topping
  • Optional orange liqueur like Cointreau, optional

Instructions

  • Juice your limes to measure about ½ cup of fresh lime juice, then set aside. If you like, grate a little zest for extra zing.
  • Pour the lime juice into your blender, followed by the simple syrup, tequila, and a generous handful of crushed ice.
  • Blend on high for about 30 seconds, until everything is well combined and the mixture turns slushy, with small ice crystals visible.
  • Check the texture—if it’s too runny, add a bit more crushed ice and pulse again; if too thick, splash in a tiny bit of cold water and blend briefly.
  • Taste the mixture—if it’s not tart enough, squeeze in a little more lime juice; if it’s too sharp, stir in a touch more simple syrup or honey.
  • Prepare your glasses by rimming the edges with a little dampened lime and dipping them in salt for that classic margarita touch.
  • Pour the icy margarita mixture into the salted glasses, garnish with lime wedges or wheels, and serve immediately with straws for sipping.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a splash of orange liqueur. Adjust the sweetness and tartness to your preference, and don’t forget to serve immediately for the best icy texture.
