I’ve been working on the final post of the Creative Biz Challenge on marketing for today – but I’ve just realized there is no way I’m going to be able to get it all finished in time and be able to do any sort of justice to the subject! So I’m going to postpone that post until Monday, Lord willing, and work on having it done for then.
BUT in the meantime, I thought this would be fun to do … share your ideas, and I might include your tips and give a shout-out to your shop in my post on Monday!
Especially if it has to do with off-line marketing. My approach to marketing is almost purely online, and I have a lot more I’m planning to share on that than I do on non-internet marketing. So share any marketing tips you want, and I may include a variety, but I’m especially looking for tips about not online marketing.
Sooo, share away! What marketing tips/techniques/ideas have you found successful? Leave them in the comments below – and make sure you leave a link to your shop, too! I can’t wait to see what you have to say. :)
Oh no! The last one? I don’t want this series to end! I don’t have any marketing advise or tips since I’m one of those shops in need of serious help but, I do have a request.
I know you are busy but if you ever find the time or desire, I would love to see some sort of checklist or outline of things to consider when running an etsy shop. I guess it would be everything you laid out for us but in a nutshell. Kind of like the checklist you made for blogs. It’s a bit overwhelming to think of all the things I need to go through to get my shop where I want it to be. Maybe I’m just slow or maybe I’m just overwhelmed because I need help in every aspect you’ve talked about.
Better yet, I should just hire you to help me and hold my hand…
I am not good at marketing, but I do try and do a couple of things to try and boost my exposure.
1. I make items for my family. The things I ask in return is if someone comments on the item thatyou they tell themm about my shop and hand them one of my business cards :)
2. I make posters with little pull tabs of my website url. I put them up one boards anywhere I can. I am not sure if this helps, but I figure any exposure is a good thing. I know that I have gone back to check on the posters and some of the tags are gone.
I do need ideas though so I can’t wait to see what others have to say.

This is not an off-line strategy, but nevertheless…
The one thing that’s actually been the most successful way for me to market my business is sharing it with my friends, namely sharing my business related activities on Facebook. And I don’t mean having your business page on FB (that’s a given), but sharing your work with your friends through status updates and photos. The key is to remember to treat this as a personal update, so it has to be a little bit different that you business updates.
I have an album with my creative works, and occasionally I share my working process as well. I also share my blog posts and other business related activities. My friends are genuinely interested in what I do and they love to see the new creations I’ve been up to. They help to spread the word and sometimes even put in an order for themselves.
Business cards? You can get 250 of them for free (except you pay shipping and handling) from vistaprint.com.
