Last week I kicked off a new challenge series: Looking Good .. Despite the Holidays. I’m very excited about it! A little while back I emailed myself a list of smaller goals and habits that I wanted to aim for to help me along the way, and I wanted to share that list with you. As you will see, there are a variety of different types of things on my list. The exercise related goals are in red, the style related goals are in blue, and the food related goals are in gray, so there is definitely a mix.
This is certainly not a one-size-fits-all kind of list, this is just my personal list. And it’s really just a list of things I need to do better about, not everything I need to do. For instance, I thought about including “put on makeup in the morning” – but I already do that, typically, so I didn’t add it to my improvement plan. So each person’s list would look different. However, having some smaller quantifiable goals I think can help achieve a more nebulous goal, like “looking better”.
And I’m feeling especially good about it now that I’m starting to see progress. As I mentioned before, this is not a weight loss advice series … however, I personally have been needing to lose some weight, and over the last few weeks of working on my list, I’ve lost 10 pounds. WooT! I’m starting to be able to fit back into some clothes I couldn’t wear before. I still have more progress I want to make (and not just on losing weight), but I feel like I’m on a much better trajectory now – and one that I can stick to, even after the holidays. Although I definitely haven’t done perfectly on my list … I think now that I’ve shared it with you all, though, I’ll feel much more accountable to it! I’m still really bad about drinking enough water. *sigh* Some of the goals we might end up talking about in more details in other posts.
So, what do you think of the idea of having a list of mini-goals?
What might be some things on your list? Things that are the same or different than mine – I’d be curious to hear either way! Leave your thoughts and comments below. :)
Some of the things I already do but have to keep making myself do:
1. Walk instead of ride whenever feasible — and be organized enough to make it feasible.
2. Go ahead and do the stuff that makes you look good — pulled-together outfit, hair, makeup — but make it snappy. (I seem less and less motivated to bother w/ makeup, but I need it now more than ever. Don’t know why.)
3. Take the stupid supplements/meds. Every day. Twice a day. Refill on time. Just do it.
Oh, yeah, vitamins … I aaaaaaaaaaalways forget them. Even forgot to put them on this list. Thanks for the reminder! :)
I think it is wonderful that you have made this list. I commend you if you work out five days a week. I struggle to get to the gym 3 days a week. I chuckled at the painting my nails pretty. I’m lucky I can even think about them! I really do need to pay more attention to them!
Thanks! Although on the working out – I’ve definitely had some weeks better than others… :) Still, it’s my goal. And I honestly do NOT take care of my nails very well, which is why I had to put it on my list! :)
Love this list! These are some things that I started working on in May. I had come to the point where I realized that I had really let myself go. I decided to make a goal of where I wanted to be weight wise by the time I turned 30(June 2013). I also made some exercise goals and for the most part have stuck with them. I am now down 27 lbs and really feeling good about myself and the hard work it took to lose the weight. I know this time of year is difficult but for the first time ever I know I can go through without gaining weight!
Way to go you can do it!
Wow, congrats on your progress then too, Angela!! Yeah, what you are describing sounds a lot like me, only I just hit that “it has to change!” point this fall. But I know exactly what you mean, and kudos to you for your progress :)
For sure a multi-vitamin! I can tell when i haven’t taken mine, they help with so many things!
One thing I think will help me in this area is to donate or upcycle things in my closet that I have but *shouldn’t* wear.
Since I’m pregnant now anyway, I’m slowly packing things away as I don’t fit into them anymore. I’ll put things I know fit my body type and desired style into boxes for our impending move. And things that don’t fit my body type or that I bought in high school when I thought the punk look was for me (it wasn’t) go into bags to be donated.
This way I won’t get lazy and grab something that is all wrong but still hiding out in my closet!
Oh, such good points!! Thanks, Laura :)
For the taking care of your skin part, I can help if you interested in trying Mary Kay! =)
*your
*you’re. LOL!
I have tried Mary Kay before … not sure if I ever found anything that quite fit for my skin with them (I have weird skin), or if I was more getting makeup. Currently, though, Mary Kay is just out of my budget. :)
what is the soda/vinegar hair thingy you mentioned???
It’s a natural hair care thing that I’ve heard good things about, especially for curly hair. I’ve tried it some but might like to get into it more fully. I may end up doing a separate post about that one!
