I’ve never had a smart phone before – and I really wasn’t trying to get one. I kind of figured it would be a long time until I had a smart phone, and that was fine with me. But when we needed to get new Massachusetts phone numbers, we shopped around and it was actually cheaper to get a data plan for the number of lines we needed – and the smart phones were free! Sweet.
And now I get to enjoy the real reason I wanted a smart phone:
Instagram.
I went on a quick trip up to Maine this weekend, and I just loved having Instagram to take pictures along the way. My only camera is my nice DSLR, but honestly, I don’t need every photo I snap to be an 18 megapixel photo. I didn’t have a point and shoot, so I’m definitely enjoying using Instagram for that. Here are some shots from this weekend…
Are you on Instagram? If so, leave your username below so that I can follow you! (My username is: FlourishCafe)
I’ve been dragging my feet on Instagram. Not that I don’t think it’s cool (it is). But where do you draw the line? As a lifestyle blogger w/ kids & a family it’s been a conscious choice (also choice made out of frugality) to not have an iphone. I don’t *want* to be able to check my fb page, twitter feed, or emails anywhere. I like having a little separation from the internet & having my computer be the place I do work stuff. I see Instagram as one more thing that would put me over the line of uncomfortable. Maybe this perspective will change, especially as I see that I’m the last blogger on earth NOT on Instagram. Anyone else feel this way?
My husband and I were just talking about this last night. We have a iphone- we got it when I was pregnant the first time so we could send quick videos to his parent in Florida from CT- but hubby has most control of it because he uses the GPS for work. I love Instagram, and I do wish that I had that program all the time, but I am happy to not have a smartphone in general because I would be checking e-mail, etc. all the time. I’m bad enough with the computer, I don’t think I need to have it with me all the time. At least for right now! LOL
Oh, I am by NO MEANS trying to convince anyone to get a smart phone. And I definitely don’t want to be one of those people who misses out on real life by constantly staring down at their phone, haha :) My husband and I both talked about how we want to have proper use of our phones, and not be glued to them – because it is definitely an issue these days. And I definitely understand not even wanting to go down that road. Really, I didn’t expect (or even really want except for Instagram) to go down the smart phone road for a loooong time. It just happened to be cheaper, so we went for it. But *certainly* keeping in mind that we don’t want to be consumed by them, of course, and I respect your decision to not get them at all, and I’m definitely not trying to convince anyone to get them. This was really just more about instagram and finding people who were already using it. :)
Instagram is genius! I love it. I’m kapachino. :) Also, it’s good to know that if you want the Instagram filters but don’t want to share a pic, just put your phone in airplane mode and it gets saved to your phone!
Good to know, thanks! :) I’ll look you up! :)
I’m an Instagram lover! I just started following you (LaurenDaisyCottage).
Thanks! I’ll have to find you on there too! :)
Love it! There’s something magical about seeing your pictures through their filter. Everything is so soft, like looking through an old sepia tone photo album.
Oh, I know, I love the filters. Silly me, though, originally didn’t realize you could scroll to the side to find more filters, and so I was limiting myself to just the first four, haha! Luckily I’ve found them all now ;)
I live in Maine! Hope you had a great time =)
I am on instagram under promisedfelicity.
Oh, fun! Yes, I did. :) I’ll look you up on instagram, thanks! :)
Instagram is fabulous! Great for promoting blog events too!

I found your blog a few weeks back through Pinterest, and am REALLY enjoying following along. I am a total Instagram convert (although I do still love my DSLR). When else could you be on an early morning walk and having some me and God time and capture the beauty of the early morning sunrise and a city spread out before my eyes? I’m meghanatmnms :-)
I’m a huge fan of instagram. I really like this special touch it gives to your photos. I’m not always carrying my DSLR around, so it’s good to have instagram so whenever something beautiful comes my way, I’m armed and ready to “capture” it (that way I can enjoy it waaay longer) ;-)
And since I’m finally leaving a comment here….Thank you so much for all your tipps on blogging!! I’m just building my first (own) Website and I find it a little bit less chanllenging thanks to your tipps+tutorials *bighug*

oh, and I’m DeSastre on instagram ;-)
I just wrote about my love/hate relationship with IG yesterday. I am sometimes impressed I can take “cool” photos with it and certainly won’t stop using it anytime soon!
BTW Ashley from Sugar Mama introduced me to your blog and I actually live in the Boston area too :) Can’t wait to get to know you better!
I love, love, love instagram.
My name is Sharksgirl213, see you there.
Instagram is the best! (Hours of time wasted fun.) Kellie xx
I’m a huge Instagram lover too! Its like another Facebook, only with lots of pretty pictures. I found you on it and and I like your photos so far. Makes me miss colder weather… it’s still in the 90s here in AZ.
my instagram name is shlbmeyer.
BTW my new smart phone purchase I think will be a Samsung Galaxy S3 which is way better than the I phone 5 ! (although I was a real apple and i phones addict I have to say samsung is doing a better job)
Yep, that’s what I got! I’ve been very happy with it. :)
