Well, at last the burn ban has been lifted!! Remember that fire pit project we did a while back? It’s been a really dry summer here, so there has been a burn ban in effect ever since then … but at long last we had some rain and were finally able to use it! We grilled some polish sausages, and had s’mores … yeah, really healthy, huh? But delicious. ;) Since I wasn’t able to post pictures of what it looked like with fire in it before, I just wanted to show you how it came out – it sparkled soooo beautifully as the fire danced behind all the openings in the sides:
Plus, it was just a really easy fire to manage. It was contained, but with all the air coming in from all around, it required no stoking or anything to keep it going. We loved it! If you missed the post where we gave a fully tutorial on how to build you own, you can click here to see that.
Which do you enjoy more when you have a fire – the ambiance? Or the s’mores? ;)

My in laws made a fire pit from an old drum years ago, it seriously is the perfect fire pit! If ours ever kicks the bucket, we’ll be doing the same!
Nice! Yeah, we heard about other people using them for a fire pit, so we were so happy when a friend told us they had an extra one we could use. Score!! :)
Nice! I wonder if that qualifies as a closed container for burning or would it have to be classified under open burning. You may not have that distinction in your state, but here we often have a ban on open but not closed burning.
Yeah, I remember looking up the specifications for our particular burn ban … I don’t remember exactly what it was called, but I do remember reading the description of it and thinking that it disqualified our fire pit. I don’t remember the details though. Either way, I’m glad the burn ban is over … and not just so that we can have a fire, but because we needed the rain sooo badly!
Fine way of describing, and nice article to get data about my presentation focus, which i am going to present in school.
That’s a great way to recycle an old washing machine drum although I’m not quite sure it would look that good in the garden :-/ But should I decide to use one, what do you burn in it? And do you balance a rack across the top on which to grill your food?
