I’m taking a little different approach with this week’s hack challenge … instead of one more-involved project, I wanted to give several different upcycling decor ideas that are so simple, there’s no assembly required!
1 – Repurpose clear glass vases to store layers of colorful scarves:
2 – Use vintage insulators as unique book ends:
3 – Use a whisk to hold recipe cards:
4 – Repurpose an old tv stand as a book shelf:
5 – Use a vintage skirt hanger as a unique method of “framing”:
Do you have any no-assembly-required upcycling ideas to share?
Post them in the comments below, I love to hear from you!
Great ideas here. Love the idea of hanging recipe cards from a whisk! Cute!
Thanks Trina! :)
These are great ideas! I use vintage teacups as little groupings of decor in our family room, and I plan to use a teapot as a vase.
Ooh, tea cups and tea pots … love it! :)
LOVE the whisk for the recipe cards amazing! I must admit after seeing how you hang your prints using the skirt hanger I immediately went and hung two Salvador Dali prints using two hangers I was about to throw out. Loving this set of challenges, so inspiring!
I definitely rely heavily on hanging pictures by hanger … it is so easy! And I like the minimalist look :)
What great ideas! I am going to try the hanger one, I have so much artwork to hang around here but not enough frames – I just went frame shopping last weekend and boy-howdy are they expensive!
I think my favorite though is the whisk/recipe card idea. Fits in perfectly with my kitchen decor.
We are celebrating our first year blog anniversary, Yay!
I hear you on the framing! That’s one reason I like using hangers … especially on pieces that might be harder to find the right sized frame for … it can get pricey!
Congrats on your anniversary – I just checked out your shop and hearted it- its lovely! :)
Loved the idea for scarves- since I paint lots of those :)
Thanks – I definitely love scarves! :)
I love the idea of using the whisk to hold recipe cards! Might be particularly useful for keeping my hands free while still being an attractive decor piece. ;)
Personally, I collect vintage cameras and I love using those as bookends on my bookshelf. It breaks up the monotony of having a whole line of books and makes it more visually appealing. (In my humble opinion, haha!)
Oh, yes, I collected vintage cameras, too!! I just love the nostalgic look. Great idea to use them as bookends, too! :)
Hi April, I came across your blog through Hellocotton and have fallen in love with the whisk recipe card idea. Will definitely be subscribing!
Welcome, Emma! :D Thanks so much for stopping by and subscribing – I appreciate it! :)
(Side note, isn’t HelloCotton great?! :) )
That TV stand looks so familiar. Maybe I had one growing up!
Love that whisk idea! So charming :)
Thanks, Cathy! Yeah, I think those tv stands used to be fairly common … I tend to have TONS of books so I’m always on the look out for ways to store books! :)
I paint old cookie sheets with chalkboard paint and that way M can draw on them with chalk and use magnets :)
Very clever idea, I love it! :)
LOVE the whisk idea! How fun!
Thanks, Aubrey! :D
I love the scarf idea if for no other reason than I would feel like a magician making them appear out of the vase every time :)
I have a couple broken globes that I’d like to do something with – maybe turn them into bowls?
I get a kick out of decorating my vintage dress form for the holidays:

I glean lots of inspiration (spiritual & crafty) from your posts. Keep up the great work!
love the last one! (^__^)/
i made a similar one with a simply hanger and the calendar that i get from the church (and haven’t any holes for hang it to the wall)…
These are brilliant ideas. I love the scarf/vase one and the idea of hanging a picture with a hanger, although I don’t have any vintage ones so it would probably look a bit odd :) Love the blog, I’ll be coming back again soon to visit I am sure!
What neat ideas! Our family puts various loose buttons in clear vases too. The color variety adds a unique accent to a room…
In the picture of the book stand there is a framed piece partially shown about books. Is this one of your free printables? If so where would I find it, it wasn’t with the Bible verses, which by the way I like very much. First time on your site, buy wont be the last. I’m signing up for your emails.
